Getting to Koh Samui

Getting to Koh Samui is relatively easy, with several transportation options available depending on where you are traveling from. The island has its own airport, making flights the fastest and most convenient choice for many international and domestic travelers.

By Air

Koh Samui Airport (USM) is located on the northeastern side of the island and receives flights from Bangkok and several other destinations in Thailand and Asia. Flying is generally the quickest way to reach Koh Samui, especially if you are traveling from Bangkok.

Direct flights are also available from selected international destinations, depending on the season and airline schedules. From the airport, taxis and private transfers can take you to the main beach areas and hotels around the island.

From Bangkok

The easiest option is to fly from Bangkok to Koh Samui. The flight takes around one hour and is particularly convenient for travelers who have limited time.

A cheaper alternative is to travel by bus or train from Bangkok to Surat Thani and then continue by ferry to Koh Samui. This option takes considerably longer but can be useful for budget travelers.

By Ferry

If you are traveling from mainland Thailand or nearby islands, you can reach Koh Samui by ferry. Ferries operate from ports in Surat Thani and Don Sak, as well as from nearby islands such as Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.

Ferry travel is a popular part of the journey and offers beautiful views of the Gulf of Thailand. Always check the latest ferry schedules before traveling, as departure times can change according to weather and seasonal conditions.

Getting Around Koh Samui

Once you arrive on the island, you can travel around Koh Samui by taxi, shared songthaew, private transfer, scooter, or rental car. For travelers who want to explore different beaches and attractions independently, renting a scooter or car can provide greater flexibility.

Tip: If you are visiting Koh Samui for the first time, booking your airport or ferry transfer in advance can make your arrival easier, especially if you are staying at a hotel outside the main tourist areas.
